Industry
    • According to WHO, there are 0.07 psychologists per lakh people in India, although the ideal level is at least three psychologists per lakh.
    • This need is recognized, and several mental health and wellness enterprises exist in India. It has raised more than US$ 28.24, with the decade's most prominent investment in 2021, and this
figure is expected to rise further soon.
    • The Mental Health Survey (2015-16) revealed that the treatment gap for mental illnesses varied from 70 to 92% for various conditions. According to anecdotal accounts, the overall number of psychiatrists in India might be between 3,500 and 5,000, or one psychiatrist for every 200,000 to 300,000 people.
    • The current training infrastructure produces around 320 psychiatrists, 50 clinical psychologists, and 185 mental health nurses annually. One of the most significant obstacles to the advancement of mental health care in India is a lack of educated and supervised services and practitioners.
    • This clearly shows the need to train mental health practitioners who can successfully respond to the mental health needs of their communities.
    • Adding to the situation, there is an immense shortage of psychiatrists and psychologists in India in comparison to the number of individuals suffering from mental illnesses.
